Three and a half years ago, I asked the question " what do Governors do?". Not long after that I became a Parent Governor, and I can say, without hesitation, that I've never regretted taking up the challenge.
My background had been secretarial, and nursing in the community, so a far cry from education. I wanted to ' give something back to Southlands' as I'd come to admire the work that's done, as I saw my grandson flourish. I also decided that if I was going to do this 'job' it had to be to the best of my ability, so I've done all the courses on offer, and will continue to do so, in order that I can challenge the school staff, along with the other Governors, ensuring teaching standards remain high, even though the criteria is continually changing. I love being a Governor, in fact it's a privilege, and I sincerely hope the Governing body continues it good work.
